Product certification is a process by which a 3rd party provides a written declaration that a product conforms to specified requirements. Product certification contains the issuance of a certificate or logo (or both) to validate that a specific product meets a distinct set of requirements, typically specified in a standard (national or international).

What Does It Mean If A Product is Certified?

If a product is certified conferring to valid national or international regulations, consumers know that the product will function appropriately and won’t cause any damage.

How to choose a certification body? What should you consider?

1) Accreditation

Ensure that the Certification Body is accredited. Accreditation is the safest means to guarantee that your certificate will be generally accepted when you’re bidding for indentures in both the private and public sectors.

 

2) Specialization

Look for a Certification Body that specifies in, or has the capability with, assessing your niche of services or goods.

 

3) Skills and Competence

A certification body’s auditor must be knowledgeable and proficient in executing significant auditing activities.

 

4) Cost

Certification bodies can differ substantially in this respect. Costly service does not necessarily translate to worth for money. Conduct your due diligence in exploring various rates of different Certification Bodies and perform a simple cost-benefit analysis to ensure whether the fees they’re proposing are truly worth the price.

How To Obtain Product Certification? - Product Certification Process

Step 1: Enquiry

• Client contacts Watermarks to ask general questions

• Client requests for Quotation

• Quotation issued based on product information and manufacturer details given

 

Step 2: Application Submission

• Client applies through Watermarks E-Application portal

• Watermarks reviews information submitted

• Watermarks issues Certification Requirement and Invoice

• Assigned auditor contacts client to discuss and schedule certification process

 

Step 3: Initial Audit

• Review of Quality Control Plan, and test report submitted (if available)

• Auditor assess manufacturing process and witness product testing

• Samples selection for further testing (if required)

• Issuance of Audit Report

 

Step 4: Product Testing

• Samples selected to be tested at an accredited laboratory (if required)

• Test report to be provided by the laboratory to Watermarks

 

Step 5: Certificate Issuance

• Full compliance results issuance of Certificate from Watermarks

• Validity of certificate is 1 year

 

Others:

• Annual Renewal Fees

• Annual Surveillance Audit
• Full compliance shall ensure renewal / continuous validity of the certificate(s)
